Bengaluru: The Karnataka Taxpayers Association (R), an NGO representing taxpayers across Karnataka, has formally alerted the Commissioner of Commercial Taxes about significant technical difficulties plaguing the official online portal for Professional Tax payments (pt.kar.nic.in). In a letter dated April 29, 2025, the association highlighted that the portal is currently experiencing severe glitches, and the One-Time Password (OTP) authentication system required to complete payments is not functioning effectively. This breakdown is reportedly preventing a considerable number of taxpayers from fulfilling their Professional Tax obligations ahead of the imminent April 30, 2025, due date, leading to widespread concern regarding potential penalties. The association has earnestly requested the authorities to take immediate steps to rectify the portal’s technical issues and ensure the smooth operation of the OTP system. Furthermore, acknowledging the scale of the problem and the resulting inability of taxpayers to comply despite genuine attempts, the Karnataka Taxpayers Association has urged the government to grant a three-month extension for the Professional Tax payment deadline to provide necessary relief to affected individuals and businesses across the state. A copy of the representation has also been sent to the Finance Minister of Karnataka.

Respected Sir,
The Karnataka Taxpayers Association (R), an NGO representing taxpayers across the state, would like to bring to your kind attention the ongoing difficulties faced by taxpayers in paying their Professional Tax through the official portal https://pt.kar.nic.in.
Currently, the portal is experiencing severe technical glitches, and the OTP system for authentication is not functioning effectively. Given the scale of the issue and the technical problems with the portal, we earnestly request you to:
1. Take immediate steps to rectify the portal and ensure smooth functioning of the OTP system.
2. Extend the due date for Professional Tax payment by an additional three months to accommodate affected taxpayers and avoid penalties.
We trust that your good office will take prompt action to address this matter and provide relief to the taxpayers of Karnataka.
