The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested an Inspector from the Central Goods & Service Tax (CGST), Regional GST Office, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The arrest followed allegations that the inspector, along with another, demanded a bribe of Rs. 10,000 from a complainant. The bribe was reportedly sought for conducting the physical verification necessary for the complainant’s company to obtain GST registration. The CBI set a trap and apprehended one of the accused inspectors while allegedly demanding and accepting the bribe amount. The arrested individual is scheduled to be presented before the Special Judge, Anti Corruption, CBI Court No. 1, Lucknow, as the investigation continues.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an accused Inspector of Central Goods & Service Tax (CGST), Regional GST Office, Prayagraj (UP) for demanding and accepting bribe amount of Rs. 10,000/- from the complainant.

A case was registered by CBI on 03.05.2025 against two accused Inspectors of CGST, Regional GST Office, Prayagraj, UP on allegations that accused demanded a bribe amount of Rs. 10,000/- from the complainant to carry out physical verification of his company, required for the purpose of GST Registration of the said company.

CBI laid a trap and caught one of the accused Inspectors red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs. 10,000/- from the complainant. Later, accused was arrested and will be produced before the Court of Learned Special Judge, Anti Corruption, CBI Court No. 1, Lucknow.

Investigation is continuing.
